Multicolour observations of V404Cyg with ULTRACAM

We present high time-resolution multicolour observations of the quiescent soft Xray transient V404Cyg obtained with ULTRACAM . Superimposed on the secondary star’s ellipsoidal modulation are large flares on timescales of a few hours, as well as several distinct rapid flares on timescales of tens of mins. The rapid flares, most of which show further variability and unresolved peaks, cover shorte...

Multicolour Poisson Matching

Consider several independent Poisson point processes on Rd, each with a different colour and perhaps a different intensity, and suppose we are given a set of allowed family types, each of which is a multiset of colours such as red-blue or red-red-green. We study translation-invariant schemes for partitioning the points into families of allowed types. This generalizes the 1-colour and 2-colour m...

Multicolour Turán problems

A simple k-colouring of a multigraph G is a decomposition of the edge multiset as the sum of k simple graphs, called ‘colours’. A copy of some fixed graph H in G is called multicoloured if its edges all have distinct colours. Recall that the Turán number ex(n,H) of H is the maximum number of edges in a graph on n vertices not containing a copy of H . We consider a multicolour generalisation exk...

Evolution of twist - 3 fragmentation functions in multicolour QCD and the Gribov - Lipatov reciprocity

It is shown that twist-3 fragmentation functions in the large-N c limit of QCD obey the DGLAP evolution equations. The anomalous dimensions are found explicitly. The Gribov-Lipatov reciprocity is violated at the twist-3 level in the leading logarithmic approximation.

Observations of Disk Galaxy Evolution

The morphologies of disk galaxies begin to deviate systematically from those of nearby galaxies at surprisingly low redshifts, possibly as low as z = 0.3. This corresponds to a time ∼ 3.5 Gyr in the past, which is only one quarter of the present age of the Universe. Beyond z = 0.5 (a look-back time of 5 Gyr) the effects of evolution on spiral structure are rather obvious: spiral arms are less w...
